Email Sign up on Frontpage

Has anyone found an effective way to link their newsletter info with the sign up on the front page and have it work? Mailpoet or Mailchimp. If so can you please list the steps you took?

I think it's crazy that a theme would be set up in this manner. A lot of us that are buying them have no idea how to configure these things.
