Is it possible to have a list of the suffixes that can be used in the tabs. The only one i'm aware of is "clear dark"

If template support special suffixes for Tabs module you can find their name on our demo server in 'Module variations' menu item, if not probably only some simple suffixes like clean, clear will be work with Tabs.

It depends on the template you are using and I think you may find them in file gk.stuff.css under css folder of your template.
