Hi
I'm not sure if I understand Your question correctly, but I'll try to explain how "mainbody" module position works.
This module position is used by a module and also by a component. Which means that our template can hide component and show a module placed in "mainbody" module position, but it's only possible for frontpage. Other pages have to show component in order to work correctly.
You can use mainbody_top and hide mainbody content using a method described here: https://www.gavick.com/documentation/jo ... omla-pages
