Hi,
As a superuser I can't edit joomla 2.5 article from front end.
Am I missing something?

Hi.
Are you talking about standard articles or K2 items ?
I will check both ... in next few minutes.

Joomla articles ---> edit button is near [ Print, Email Edit ] and it works
For K2 - you have to add your user as K2 user and its group set as "Site Owner", Save
and you will see "Edit item" Above K2 item title on front-end --- works & tested

This only works when print or e-mail button is active. I don't want those things to show, only the edit button/text when logged in.

yes, this is old issue.
You have to edit
templates\gk_bluap\html\com_k2\templates\default\item.php
find Print/Email and remove from code. and you will get only edit icon as a result.
