How to make news slider auto update

I bought this template and the main frame does not get auto updates like the old one but the rest of the page does. Any ideas? Has anyone had and fixed this issue before?

If you look at certain stories on the front page you will see they update automatically daily. If you notice the front page has a huge blank space on it and that is where our main stories and photos were displayed with the old design. It no longer updates with this new design. We are simply looking for a way to resolve that issue.

In addition we had are own emoticons on the old design and that went away with the new design and turned all the old posts with emoticons in them to text. We were hoping you could shed light on this. If you need access to the code let me know. We are grateful for any help you can give us as we really want to use this new design. We are a free forum that just talks about sports ect. Thanks.

Can you use some annotations to describe it more clearly? Also I would need backend and FTP access to check your site configurations and code, so if possible please send them via a PM as well.
