what i described in the firs post is what i got after installing joomla 3.1 and then the template package from the extension manager.
then i try to install the quickstart package as it was a full joomla istallation (is it?): well, everything starts like a joomla installation, but after the third tab (after db configuration etc) nothing happens, usually it tells you to remove the installation folder etc.. not this time... any suggestion?

i think i kind of solved:
backend global configurations->server->Error reporting to none
i think this should be more evident on your guide.
thanks anyway

Hi

This is happening because of old PHP verion. Joomla requires PHP 5.3.x , also setting errors levels showing to none is a must step in any joomla installation. Also some of the mesages are a cross issues with joomla and xamp. Please try working on a live server which is more prepared for joomla installation.
