Trying to understand prices in k2mart (and thus virtumart)

OK so I'm getting a lot further with my site. The layout is getting there, although in places it's still a mess, but I'll sort that out.

I have however one problem with k2mart and understanding pricing. Basically I would like products which have variations (eg different sizes and thus different prices) to show up in the item page. They do, but it appears as soon as the product has such a variation, the price no longer shows up.

An example of a prodcut without variation for which the price DOES show up:

And an example of a product *with* variation, for which the price now no longer shows:

I would have hoped the price would show up, AND change as the user picks different sizes. Apart from not showing up on that page, if i actually add the product to the cart, then the normal price ends up in the cart, not the variation (eg "large") price ?!

When it comes to prices i'm actually generally confused… what is a "base price" and the tax reductions etc etc?? for this particular product (dog carrier) I just used the override price, since I dont care for tax. But even then I would have thought the variation price should work… it doesn't… in fact, the override price is 16 pounds, but when i add the large (which should be £50) to the cart, it ends up being in the cart for £23 ??

Any insight you have would be most helpful!!

Please try change the name of /html/com_virtuemart to /html/_com_virtuemart and let me know if this makes a difference.
