K2 with VirtueMart

Hi, I recently purchased the yourShop template and started to customize for my needs. I'm accustomed using VirtueMart but this is my first attempt using K2. I cannot figure out what is the difference between the two components and if I can use one or the other? The purpose of the site is essentially an online catalog of products. There wont be any need to display prices or order online. Normally I would disable these features within VirtueMart however, it seems that K2 may be able to do this as well.

Does K2 integrate with VirtueMart? I created categories in VirtueMart but they don't seem to be linked within K2. Are the components separate and distinct?

VirtueMart component is exclusively e-commerce dedicated.
K2 component is content in general and not dedicated to e-commerce. but with other extensions you can have similar features, like for example K2 Store component (it's an addon to K2).

Also you can work with Virtuemart together with K2, using K2mart component that allows you to export VM content and features to K2. In this case, K2 mart or K2 don't replace but enhance VM potential (in my honest opinion)

Anyway, if you want to use only as catalogue of products, working only with K2 component should be enough.

Will be looking at K2 since I wont be using this site for full ecommerce.
