VM OR K2

I'm new using ecommerce, and I was wondering how does this work, because I'm not understanding. I have virtuemart but also k2 store. Do I have to register my products twice? or which articles should be in virtuemart and which others with k2 store? I love how the template looks in the home page with these k2 modules, but also how products are displayed with virtuemart.

Which is the purpose of having 2 similar components in the same template?

That will depend on your e-store. If you are going to sell a lot of items / products, vat calculations / weight calculations etc then use virtuemart. If for an example like a software developer selling few products use K2-Store.
