Can't show module on Virtuemart product page

I want to show various menu/tabs modules on a Virtuemart product page. But unless I select "all" in the menu items box, the modules won't show on the page - and I don't need them on all pages. When I select only the menus I want then only the Virtuemart product page shows up.
I have an identical setup using K2 – when I select the menus, the modules show fine. I'm guessing there's something different going on here in the way Virtuemart and K2 work, but I can't work out why it should affect the display of additional modules in this way. Anyone got any ideas?

It's possible with an commercial module to get more freedom with modules in VirtueMart on different pages like browse, product details, thank you page etc.

for tabs in content jw tabs from joomlaworks works fine to do the job...

Thanks for the tip RK - free ad very welcome! I hadn't realised that Virtuemart was limited in this way - you've saved what's left of my hair!

Virtuemart is not that flexible as Joomla is... but this module gives a lot more opportunities, however it's not that you ar as free as in Joomla. It's for sure much better than the standard way VM works.
