K2 content ignored

I have installed quickstart package with Sporter template. It's my first time with K2 so i have added a new item. The problem is that the item created in K2, category Basketball por example, doesn't show at the front page. If i add an article in joomla article system it shows in frontpage. What's wrong?

PD: I also experienced slow loading times with this template.

I found it. Items are under the menu K2 category... that's a little confusing for me. Template sample data has articles in joomla system and in K2 system.
