Broken VM Category Link if 'Show mainbody on frontpage' is turned off

Change your online store into modern look with myStore eCommerce VirtueMart Joomla template - discussion forum.

Hi all,

Ok I've taken some screen grabs from the website to help explain my problem. I did
the enable "Show mainbody on frontpage" at template configuration, as you advised.

However, if you can look at the image file attached within this e-mail called
' Correct Virtue Mart Category Example Page.gif ', that is the correct
area I want the site to open when a user clicks on one of the links
shown within this image file ' Gavick-Email-Query.gif '.

My problem is, when ' Show mainbody on frontpage ' is turned off, when a user
clicks a link as in ' ' Gavick-Email-Query.gif ', the site just reloads the
home page & does not open this section ' Correct Virtue Mart Category Example Page.gif '.
It is the same problem for all the links within Virtue Mart Module category list.

I really hope the above makes sense. I think I've a corrupt module within my
Joomla Back End.

I have a temporary fix in place at the site below, however, I had to turn
off ' JComments ' & ' NSP ', this is only a temporary fix & not the correct
state the site should be in.

Please advise as I'm sure you understand this product like an expert.

Gavick-Email-Query.gif

Also the problem is not the gap on the main page, I do not want the Virtue
Mart categories to open on the main page. I want them to open the very same
way they do when a user navigates via the nav bar at the top of the page.

Thanks,

Niall Kelly

Hi

Everything is just fine. The case is that VM runs inside mainbody on frontpage so disabling it simply hides VM, which means prevent it from working.

Hi,

Why does it work exactly the way I want it to on your demo page example of the myStore site then ?

For example when I click the VirtueMart Module ' Apple ' on your demo front page home page example it does NOT open on the VM on the front page home page. It opens this link:

http://demo.gavick.com/joomla15/may2010 ... Itemid=203

I really think the language barrier is causing our inability to understand each other, I'm sorry but I only speak English.

Thanks,

Hi

If You have used Quickstart than there is no other way for the site to work the same because it's an exact copy of the site.

But analizing the link is a really good idea.

option=com_virtuemart - that means that this page runs a component. Components are being loaded at mainbody
Itemid=203 - this param tells us that this product has been conected with menu option. If You do not have this in url or value is set to 1 than that is probably Your problem. You just need to create a menu option which is holding this product or category (products pages will be created automaticaly)

Hi teibite,

Yes I did use the QuickStart installation file. The VirtueMart Module Categories did work correctly for a time, & then for no reason I can see they stopped working. For example, if I clicked on the VirtueMart Category link ' Digital Print ' on the home page front page the site would open this link:

http://ross4print.com/index.php?page=sh ... Itemid=203

And then it just stopped working.

If it is my fault can you please advise the location where I can ' You just need to create a menu option which is holding this product or category (products pages will be created automaticaly) '.

I can e-mail you in PM the log in / password details for the site if you want to look at the back end.

Happy Holidays to everyone at Gavick.com

Thanks,

Niall Kelly

Hi

It's just a standard menu creating. You do not even need to show this menu anywhere. The case is that this product must have an Itemid.

Hi

Please simply attache this product or category to some menu item. It's not important if it's gonna be in a menu visible on the site or not.

Hi teitbite,

Ok Happy New year first of all. Now, I'd like to get this Forum Topic closed with a Thank You for teitbite and a solution for me as soon as possible.

In your last post you stated ' Please simply attache this product or category to some menu item. It's not important if it's gonna be in a menu visible on the site or not. '.

I've included within this post some screen images taken from the front end with the category links & the back end within VirtueMart, the location where the categories where created.

I honestly think I do not have a mod installed or I'm missing some plug in. Please have a look at the attached images I hope they help to explain my problem.

Thanks,

Niall Kelly

Hi

That was completly diffrent problem than I thought :) I have just disabled "Latest Customer Reviews" which was set to show on the frontpage where VM is being displayed.

Please take a look if that was a problem because right now I'm really confused ;/

Hi teitbite,

Unfortunately that was not the problem I have, I've just taken some screen images from your demo page of myStore.

If you look at the demo site, when I click on the ' Apple ' link in the highlighted section of the image attached, the site does not open the VM on the front page home page.

I want my Ross4Print.com Virtue Mart Categories links ( highlighted in attached image ) not to open on front page home page, and to open the VM page style just like the demo site does.

I hope I am explaining myself clearly in the above.

Thanks,

Niall Kelly

Hi

Och. Sorry. I was sure I've told about it and this was not the solution You asked about. Nevermind.

You just need to add a new item to menu and choose Virtuemart for type of this item. Just as You can see on example from demo site. See "3rd party extensions" menu option and its subitems.

Hi,

I'm so confused on this one now. Is it within the VirtueMart back end that I have to ' add a new item to menu and choose Virtuemart for type of this item. ' or does the VirtueMart category link in with the Nav bar at the top of the page ?, or do I need to set a new item ID at a different location within the Joomla admin back end ?.

From the demo site I can see at the top of the page ' You are here: Home » 3rd party extensions » VirtueMart » Product Category Page » Apple ', and that page was displayed after I clicked the ' Apple ' link on the front page home page under Virtue Mart Category tab on far left side middle of level of screen.

Can you please take a screen image of the section you are talking about using the log in details I sent please ?

Thanks,

Niall Kelly

Hi

I can see that You've created "Printing" item in the menu. Right ?

Is it working as You expected?

Hi teitbite,

I don't have ' Printing ' under the Virtue Mart Module links, it is only up at the top used within the red Nav bar that works perfect.

My problem is the links within the image attached. If I was to turn off ' show VM on front page home page ', those links stop working & don't display anything, they just re load the home page.

The demo site does not display the Virtue Mart Module links on the front paqe home page, it displays them in the same section style as the red Nav bar links on the top of the page.

Maybe I should re install the myStore quick start file on a different domain to see what is wrong cause I don't understand why the problem exists on my Ross4print.com site.

Thanks,

Niall Kelly

Hi

I've went to Your site's backend and checked it. You did not connected VM with any menu item as I suggested. The Printer item was a simple link. I have changed this element to type style as "Virtuemart". All work fine.

Thank you Teitbite !

I did not understand what you had directed me to do within the backend of the my site. I've never used these type of templates before & I guess there is a learning curve involved.

Thanks again, I'll go into the back end & see what you have changed & take note for the next time.

Hi

I'm sorry also I didn't understood You at the beginning. This could be resolved so fast :(

For the changes see only on the Main Menu item settings. I've only changed type from "url" to "virtuemart".

Hi teitbite,

Yes I now see in the ' mainmenu ' section of the backend, you changed type from "url" to "virtuemart".
Thank you for your help with this problem I was having.

Can we declare this question post as fixed now ?,
