Product browsing issue

I have a issue regarding the product setup in this system, dont know if its a mystore or a virtuemart question though.

My setup is so that every category, lets say jewelry, has 5 subcategories, neckless, ring, bracelet, broch, and earrings. So i have linked the different products to the relative subcategory. This of course work fine. My issue is that i want to show all products in the main category, and then let the user narrow the products down by selecting a subcategory. However, if the user want, they can browse all the jewelry in the main category. Is this possible?

It's Virtuemart handling.
While adding an article, you need to assign to both (primary and secondary categories).
How? By pressing "CTRL" button and select multiple categories.
