Does anyone have more detailed instructions on how to use the quickstart package. I would prefer to go that route because there doesn't seem to be any detailed documentation regarding this template.

I am using Host Gator, c-panel. I understand I need to create a new database and upload all the folders there but can anyone offer a more detailed account of this?

Web Address: zklip.com

I have already installed Joomla. I understand I need to remove the installation to utilize the quickstart.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

all u need to do is create a new database and transfer alle files within the quickstart. you don't need to isntall joomla first, joomla is included in the quickstart... when all transfered just go to your normal www and run the installation. as default the user and password will be admin / demo...

I may help you with these steps :
1. install xamp
2. then put gk quicstart in xamp/htdocs/
3. extract using 7 zip
4. rename the folder quickstart you just extracted. for eg you rename it "mystore"
5. open browser. install qucistart by typing in your browser localhost/mystore
6. follow the instructions.

remember to turn on the xamp after install :)

What I'm not sure about is how to create a database? Am I creating a MySQL database and putting the whole quickstart .zip file in that directory?

I am trying this using phpMyAdmin but can't seem to get it to work.

Hi

You can create new mySql database or use the existing one if there is no joomla database witht he same prefixes already there. The case is that during installation Joomla is asking for settings to this database and filling it with data.

Ok I figured it out thanks guys! That was way harder than just installing the template but I guess it saved me a lot of time in configuring every detail. I've personally never used anything except joomla's installer so this was all new to me.

Hi there,

Sorry to reopen this but I think I'm being a bit thick.

I have cPanel on my domain and I've used Fantastico to install Joomla in the past. I'm having problems with using a template and I was recommended in another thread to install the Quickstart package and I just don't get how to do it.

I've created a new database. But what i don't understand is where do I put all the files from the Quickstart package?

Sorry if this is really simple but I just get where to go after I've created a new database.

Thanks.

Allow me to help since I had the exact same issue.

DO NOT USE FANTASTICO TO INSTALL JOOMLA. Delete any install of joomla.

Create a new SQL database using database wizard. Note the name of the database and any password.

Take the qickstart zipped file and upload directly to the domain directory. To do this access File Manager from C-Panel...click www...then choose the appropriate domain. Upload to the zip file to the root of that chosen domain....then when you see the zip file, simply unpack it.

Next go to your domain. www.yourdomain.com

You will see the joomla install menu. You will have to enter in the name and pass for the database you created. You will need the ftp info from your host as well. Get this by navigating to the c-panel, i found it under ftp something or other. just look around.

Run through the install of joomla and you should be all set.

REPEAT: DO NOT USE FANTASTICO DELETE ANY CURRENT INSTALL

Hey could you explain the xampp process a little more. I've downloaded xampp and filezilla because i'm sick of using the host file manager. What are the exact steps? thanks so much

Should I still use xammp 1.7.1 instead of the latest version? Joomla does not suppot PHP 5.3?

Hi

I believe that PHP version got nothing to do with it. The most problematic is XAMMP itself. I've been using it for a long time, but problems made me to use acctual host server where the site will be located. It's safier and reduces the time for moving the files :)

For FTP client I recomend Cyberduck. I had never got any problems with it :)
