I want change the header of the Mystore template

I want change the header of the Mystore template and I'don't arrive to change the index.php file on the folder template. I want to have 2 positions on the header. Header 1 on the left with 640px width and Header 2 on the right with 320px width.
I have change before the templateDetails.xml.
Thanks to help me change the index.php file.
