Replace footer copyright

I want to add a simple facebook link to the mystore template. I've created a module for it which is no problem but I would like to add it to the footer position, to replace the copyright that is there just now. Is there a way to do this? (it will happily let me add it elsewhere on the page but does not display if I select footer as the position. An alternative would be to add to the end of the footernav but it's not having that either. Have attached picture of the page as I've not uploaded yet.

Create a mod_custom module and paste the facebook code into it, then assign it to that module position.
