how can I change the menu color

Line 39 in gk_stuff.css let's you define the main background colour. Further down around line 79 you'll need to define the other colours in the menu, including roll over states etc.
A handy thing to install as an Add-on in your Firefox browser is Firebug (Webmaster Tools is another good one). This helps out in finding out what CSS affects the element you'd like to change and what line its on.
