Update...

Here we go again.

I have been looking for some details on how to do an update and haven't found any.

I'm wouldn't describe myself as Joomla expert..

So how excactly do you do it?

There are three files : a tgz file, restfiles.zip and quickstart...

What excactly do I need?

The update info is just "Replace old files with new ones" but this doesn't make any changes in the DB tables which I believe is required for the K2 update.

K2 has the same database as an older version but of course you have to upgrade your K2 to the newest version - the same with JComments.

Ahh ok.

Then which files do I use for upgrade ?

The files in the quickstart, in the restfiles or in the TGZ file ?

You need to use only files from TGZ package.

It just confused me since this was TGZ and the others zip.

Why is that by the way ?

.tgz file is a compress format file used used from earlier days of UNIX. If you want to see more information, visit this page.
You can uncompress with most usual programs like winzip, winrar, gzip and so on.

If you don't want to replace files, you can assign temporally the default template to a different one, uninstall the old corporate 2 template and install the new one.

Simple.

Yep I know TGZ, just wondered why this was used for one of the files and that lead me to thinking that it was something special.

I do not want to reinstall since not many files are changed

Now its running

Took 10 minutes to update..

Installed K2 2.3

Made a comparison of the files from 1.1 with those from 1.2
Replaced the 14 changed files, added the 14 new files.
Added my changes to the K2.css, and thats it

Hi, What are the changed files that need to be updated exactly as i need to know , i dont want replace files that i have made changes to and i really dont know what i have made changes to.

Can you tell me exactly what files need to be updated with the new upgrade for corporate 2

And so k2 and jcommponent is just an upgrade like normal right.

you have to upgrade all files connected with K2, JComments, additionaly we have made some changes in gk_stuff.css and in header.php file. Please also remember about upgrading template XML file

Ok, i have upgraded the K2 component, and Jcomment to the latest version.

So what your saying is in addition to this their will be 3 extra files to update, ( header.php, teamplate XML file and also gk_stuff.css ) and that would bring my corporate 2 template to the latest version am i correct??

AWSOME, This will HELP alot of People as well and i am sure alot of people want to know exactly what files to update as this makes life much easier when you have made modifications to css files or other files.
