How come background images are low-sized (~30k) but have high quality?

Hi,

Just wondering how does gavick team come up with low-sized but high quality images? For instance, MyStore background image that's 2400x1080 only 33.6kb :) how come?

If I do it, i'd be like at least 100kb or something like that...
