Look fellas, you know you have great templates, and you also have production and customer relation problems. This in turn creates friction between you and your customers like me. It's your business model that's creating all this dramma.
I have a MBA in computer science but I also have a business degree, so I'm going to give you guys (respectfully) some advice.
There is a company Called Burger King in the USA, they used to make the best hamburgers but they branched off into making chicken, tacos, breakfast, and the burgers suffered, they almost went out of business until they went back to selling just burgers.
Conclusion: Don't go too far from what works, or in your case.. sells. Your designers and coders are at their best when they are challenged, I've seen it and I've come to appreciate it. Cherry was a disaster, it could have been made by taking all the modules off any of your templates and changing the background, face it and lets move on.
Most of the frustration comes from people not knowing whats next. People lose their minds when they don't know WHEN or WHAT. If I knew WHAT was coming next I could make plans. Right now I've been waiting a week to see the new template. I don't know if it's better than Gamebox or not, I make websites for record labels. The template has to match the images from the photographers the labels hire. I can't do every template in black or grey, so I need have some idea of color scheme by mid month.
If I knew I could give them a general idea of the template to come, they could decide if they want something I already have or if they're willing to wait. But I wouldn't dare give them a date off of Gavick's promises and I mean the company not the person. What I DO know is the template will NEVER be out they day it supposed to be.
Solving the problems:
Gavick post about 3 images of prospective templates each at the beginning of the month, let the members vote on the template that they would like to see published, you'll never be committed to making the one we pick but at least you'll have a clear idea of what we want, combine that information with your logistics. Now I know it's hard for a artist to be told what to produce, I know you want to be free to produce what you want. Your going to have to balance that out with your customers demands and needs at some time.
Stop giving release dates, I know you guys drop them to shut us up but when you don't keep them it puts you in a bad light. I know it's funny to see us squirm but it feeds these forums with strife and anxiety. Instead of release dates give out a release IMAGE, that will shut everyone up. Make sure that image is dropped religiously on the 15th of every month, and nobody will care about the release date.
Now I know somebody is going to say I've broken the forum rules, But I have 4 web design companies, Gavick made me buy a subscription for each company so in all I have 5 accounts here, 4 paying and this one, had to follow the rules....right. At any rate ban me if you need to but I feel much better finally voicing my opinion.
