I need to know which files to download in order to do the update for therealdesign.

There are three zip files but I'm not sure which one to use. The slideshow is not working and I'm hoping if I update it will work.

You need to download standard template (not quickstart, not rest_files) package.
When replacing current template, all changes made to previous will be lost - have that in mind, and if You have made some changes to override.css or any other files - copy them first, and then basing on them, reverse those changes to updated template files.

If it goes to slideshow - without any further information I cant guarantee You, that it will work with new template. I would need to know what slideshow, is it our plugin, or some 3rd party plugin, link to side and info where this slideshow should be would be halpful also.

So the only thing I would loose would be changes in css or overrides correct?

It took me a few to change all the text to purple so I might not want to update. Will my site be okay if I don't?

The slideshow is the one from therealdesign. I figured out that even though I could not edit the current slides for some reason, I could create new slides. I was able to test it by throwing a random image in and it worked. However, when I edited the image to take out the background and put it in the new slide, no image showed up. Do you know why?

If You made changes only to override.css, then backup it first, then update template and place override.css back. If changes was made to more than override.css then you should revert all those changes on new template files.
