Hi all.

I wanted SEF urls to work on my domain www.collegeenglishhelp.com

I heard the solution was in changing the htaccess file, so I used a 'recommended' master version found in this page:

http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?t=549841

I used it, and didn't work. So I copied the original htaccess back on to the directory using FTP. But now it's asking me for a password to log into my site. Even worse, I can't see any of my folders on my site using FileZilla anymore, just the .htaccess and htaccess.txt files.

Please help !

to make the SEF option working on joomla you need to do the following steps:

1) go to you joomla Global Configuration -> site -> SEO Setting -> change Search Engine Friendly URLs and Use URL rewriting to Yes

2) on your FTP root change the htaccess.txt file to .htaccess

this should make it work. I don't know why you can't see the folders on FTP but be careful modifying the .htaccess file, it could break your website easily.

Yes it can. I've managed to get my site back up but I can't manage to get SEF urls working.
