I have been all through the support forums and I see MANY reports of problems with the facebook login feature. What I don't see is any response from the Gavick team. I tried to post a support ticket, but was just told to post in the forum.

It seems like there is an endemic issue that applies across many templates. If it is a configuration issue then it would be great to see a post from Gavick explaining how to configure for operation. I have configured at least one site with a 1.7 template (coffe) that works fine. I have not been able to make any 2.5 templates work though.

Is there an issue? Does anyone have a TWN II template working with Facebook? Is Gavick on top of this and seeking a solution?

The Gavick Facebook interface appears to be worthless. I bought a third party extension to get the needed functionality. What is really irritating isn't that he feature is useless - Gavick has such great products that an occasional problem child can be tolerated.

No, the really irritating part is the lack of communication and customer response. If this forum is Gavick's only way of obtaining support, then customer concerns should be answered. An answer of "It doesn't work currently and we don't know when it will be" is a hell of a lot better than ignoring the issue.

Personally, I would prefer to see facebook removed from those templates where it does not work. That would prevent wasting time in researching the configuration to get it to function. If Gavick cannot get it to work on their own demo site, I guess I have no chance of getting it to work on mine.

The extension I purchased was JFBconnect. Works great. If you use it, be sure to turn off all template facebook functions, not just login.

If you use any external extension relate with facebook the template login will not work because of scripts conflicts.

Your own demo of twn II does not work with the facebook login, and neither does the quickstart install. The extension I installed was AFTER trying to get the facebook login to work. That extension works fine and facebook login is now functional - but not using the Gavick function.

There is obviously an issue here - if you search this forum for "facebook login" there are 284 hits. If you start reading them, it quickly becomes apparent that there is no solution.

At this point, I really don't care - I purchased a working component and I do not need Gavick to correct. My gripe is that I spent a significant amount of wasted time trying to get a feature to work that has known issues. I love Gavick products, but it seems that support is almost non-existent on some issues. You could at least make a post acknowledging the issue and warning people that the function is not working - so that others do not waste time as I did.

Today we make a complex tests (again) of login with facebook feature and the login is working properly but there few things that can cause problems :

1/ problem with generating APP ID, usually users paste full url with http:// or www before domain name but if you go to your site and don't see www before URL you surely create APP ID for wrong domain

2/ htaccess - we notice that few days ago facebook disable possibility to use fb login when the domain is secured by htacess - script can't get result from fb api to authenticate user

3/ not updated template and plugin - since facebook change authentication API all users who have old fb login plugin should update the plugin and the template - especially file social.php in layouts/blocks directory

4/ some mistakes in keys - please check twice keys in plugin configuration and APP ID in template settings

For more assistance here you can find https://developers.facebook.com/docs/guides/web/ full code of facebook login (Authentication part). This is sample HTML page, you can copy source, save as .htm file, set your keys and APP ID and upload to your server to test whether everything is working fine. If the example from facebook does not work - problem is APP ID or htaccess but not template or our plugin.

Is the default joomla htaccess interfering as well?
Our site (http://www.design3.com) doesn't seem to work with fb connect and we have htaccess.

Do you have more information on this issue?

If you are using facebook connect (a good product) be sure to go into the template and turn off all Facebook options (login, likes and comments). If any one is on, then it will not work.

Did you set keys properly ? When the pop-up is showing and you can insert you login/pass that means that all in template works properly. The facebook scripts returns this message so it looks like it is something with configuration. Please check domain setting in APP edit page, maybe you set domain without www.

Hi guys, I too am having fb login issues. So when you don't put the http: in the domain (fb apps site) it will say ERROR site URL must begin with http or https. So do we ignore that error message from FB and don't use http as you recommended in an earlier post?

My FBlogin button works, but the user is facebook and some auto fill password which returns USER OR PASSWORD incorrect/unknown. Any help would be great. :)

ps. the support has been solid. I have had a few issues and the team even emailed me and took care of the them. Thanks!

If the pop-up is showing and fill data with facebook/facebook then returns a problem it says that facebook script returns access denied information. It is usually related with domain settings on facebook.

well its not really denying the login, it is using the wrong login data.

By wrong login you mean ? After you click on login with facebook data should be set to facebook/facebook and then open pop-up from fb with login/password.

After I click login, facebook popup opens and fills the username as, "Facebook" and tries to login. Then we are unable to complete login because it isn't using a real username.

As I said the login/username have to be set to facebook/facebook. Did you select auto register in authentication plugin settings ?

I don't understand where "facebook/facebook" login/username settings are located. Auto register is enabled in the authentication plugin though. Could you please direct me where the login/username fields are?

Latest update brings some improvements in facebook login script but after many user requests that this is not working in every case it was caused by not udpated template or wrong configuration.

I just wanted to confirm that the Gavick FB Login does NOT work. It took one of my programmers about 15 hours of coding to get the FB login to partially work. By partially I mean that it will connect to FB and accept the username/password and then it does nothing.

The FB feature was one of the main reasons for the initial purchase and this has been an clear issue with not only my website but others. Your forum has questions about it and the user above agrees. I assumed since the first posting about the issue was in 2010 that it would have been fixed, much to my surprise it has not.

I don't have any message from user 'Steel Fashion' I've checked my inbox several times. Please disable all other fb plugins because it could be conflict with fb scripts. For all users who have problems with configuration we've created a special wiki article, please check this steps again :
