hi there,

I had installed the quickstart of Corporation 2, then meet HTML 500 error for the site, but I can access the administration.

Does anyone know what's going on there?

Thanks in advance.

If this is a new installation straight from quickstart package try to upload your files again as some of the files may be corrupted during previous upload session. Just don't upload installation folder and configuration.php if available. Let us know how you get on.

Thanks, normanUK.

Actually, I uploaded the gk_corporate2_quickstart_J!25.zip (18,445,439 Bytes) to my linux host then unzip it to process the installation.

I suggest you transfer files yourself using a ftp program as otherwise the way you have done can cause permission issues in some hosts.

Check folder permissions in joomla control panel > Site > System information > Directory Permissions.

Thank you.

Just for test purposes please install something ( component/module/plugin ) from joomla admin and see if installation completes.

Thank you...

when I choose to install a language pack, the Extension Manager return:

JFolder::create: Could not create directory
Aborting language installation: Failed to create directory [/var/www/html/etudata2/administrator/language/zh-TW]
Package Install: There was an error installing an extension: admin_zh-TW.zip

BTW, my linux host uses the AWS EC2 micro instance, so I just use the default user account "ec2-user" to proceed all operation regarding the installation.

Well this is what i meant by when i suggested that you upload the files yourself by using a ftp client.
When you upload files yourself using ftp client your username becomes the owner of the files but if you upload only a zip and get it uncompressed in your server then system becomes the owner of the files.

Here is what you can do.

As you are in beginning stage to build your website delete all contents and start again by uploading files yourself.

Or you need to change folder permissions to 777 for joomla to write into those folders. Trouble is, this creates a security threat and you can't just leave folder permissions like that in case you need to install something in the future.

Or your host needs to add apache as member of the group then this way you can set folder permissions to 755 which is secure enough as well as can be written by apache in our case by joomla.

Pretty much most folders needs write permission depending on what you are installing.
This can be components/modules/languages/templates/images/plugins/ admin components and so on...

Each component/module might also have a cache folder inside their working directory such as News Show Pro GK4 cache folder to create thumbnails.

Other then those /log, /cache, /tmp needs to be writable for joomla to function.

Edit : You have replied while i was posting this , in that case make sure all folders are set to 755 and all files are set to 644 permissions then try again installing something.

See you around...

Hi normanUK,

I tried to change 777 for all folders under web root, but still can't solve the 500 problem.

Actually, I have another virtual web with Joomla 2.5 installed first, then template Corporation 2 installed successfully. Both Site and Administrator of this virtual web run normally.

Thanks for your great help anyway.

Hi norman,

It's me again. My problem is still there. I have assigned user and group 'apache' as the owner and group of my web root, then confirmed all Directory Permissions to be 'Writable'.

The current status is: all other site templates ("Atomic - Default", "Beez5 - Default-Fruit Shop", "Beez2 - Default") are doing fine but "gk_corporate2 - Default" is not.

If you need me to PM you my admin access for checking, just let me know.

Many thanks.

Hi norman,

I see my site is working fine now. May I know how can you correct the error? I would like to rebuild all the packages again in other machine.

Thanks for your help.

Seems my message didn't get through ;) I must admit this was a difficult to debug and find. Your server doesn't have GD installed or it is not functioning properly so please check GD installation , so any modules trying to create any thumbnails breaks the site. In your case it was NSP GK4 in position top 3 Partners in business module.

I had installed GD and restart Apache well. It does solve the problem when I enable Partners in business.

Thanks again. Good job.
