Pagebreak in a dropdown menu and "changeble" first entry.

Hi everyone!
I was wondering if anyone knows how to modify the pagebreak plugin in joomla 1.7/2.5 ("...\plugins\content\pagebreak\pagebreak.php") in order to have the pagebreak displayed in a dropdown menu and then be able to name the first entry to whatever I want on each article instead of having it automatically named as the the title of the article.

There's an extension for joomla 1.5 that does this exact job (Dropdown Toc), but I need it for j1.7. I contacted the author of this plugin, but the project is very much abandoned.

I realize this is not Gavick related, but I just wanted to see if there's someone on this community that knows how to do it, maybe because it was already done by someone else and can share the code or just give some directions.
