Mega Menu usage instructions

Sorry for the basic question..

I'm configuring a site based on Sporter and am looking at configuring the menu system. The Extended Parameter settings on the menu items have a comment to read the usage instructions if you are new to mega menu.

I'm new to mega menu (and joomla for that matter) and I'm having difficulty in locating these mega menu usage instructions. I do have the quickstart package loaded and am working with that.

If it matters, I'm using Joomla 1.5

It seems that we don't have any documents on this. If you are not clear at any items please let me know then I will explain as I can't write a detail/full document for you right now.

I've tried tweaking the menu settings a little and I'm not sure how to really control their layout. I suspect it's a combination of the extended settings on the menu items and probably some CSS overrides, but I'm not really sure where to start.

I'm trying to mimic the layout of the menus on this site, which also appears to be using Sporter (totally unplanned....this is another team in the same league I'm putting a prototype website together to replace the god-awful one that's out there now )

- Horizontally aligned groups of menu items, no cascading of the mega menu sub items. Just one big mega menu of selections grouped like I want them
- No 2-toned container for the submenus
- Control over menu bgcolor

Anything to get me pointed in the right direction would be appreciated

So, I experimented a bit with the settings and figured out how to get the true mega menu layout. However, I'm still not sure what some of the other settings actually do. Some of the menu items for instance wrap on 2 lines and I'd like to increase the width a little so that they don't do this. I'd also like to trim down some of the spacing around and between the menus. But none of the settings I played with seemed to have any effect on them.

I tried playing with the following settings but can't seem to figure out what they do or at which menu item level I should be making them to have effect on the display

• Columns (changing this at the top level to anything other than 1 had some bad effects)
• Submenu Width (seemed to have no effect)
• Submenu Column Width
• Submenu Column[i] Width
• Additional Class (what kinds of things can I do with this and with what values)

Hi Mark,

I'm sorry for this late follow up. I understand that you are having some difficulties with customizing the menu on your site, however please don't ask generally but describe clearly each single issue/idea then I can know how to help better. For example, please use a screenshot with annotations to show me what you want to change with League menu and its sub. I think we would need some css code changes, the settings in backend do not always help us have all what we want
