Hi,

I use Coffe template, I install the quickstart package for Joomla 1.7.

Everything is ok but for some menu elements the url is not good.

I have something like this : www.mysite.com/template/lorem-ipsum/mypage.html

I don't want to see template/lorem-ipsum !

It seems it's the artcile category of the quickstart package but I rename everything, so why i have this ?

Anyone knows how to fix this ?

Its 2 things...

Although you renamed category names and article name , menu item name or its alias is still have old names. So check main menu items and its alias's.

Second one is SEF url , clear or purge SEF urls so it can re-create the link...

You might be better off installing a custom SEF component such as JoomSEF or AceSEF to take control of your urls.

If you are still seeing "template/lorem-ipsum/" in the url i believe you still havent checked Joomla Admin > Main Menu > " Any Menu Items " pointing to those articles or article categories, as even standard joomla SEF will still not show those if you have changed them already.

Open the menu item that you are seeing the wrong title and look to the right under parameters for page title and make sure that it is not listed there.

To clear your site cache by going to the top menu site/maintenance and then clicking on clear cache and might purge expired cache while your at it. If this does not correct your problem then you need to look to the article parameters for something there. Although I have worked with quite a few Gavick quick installs and never experienced what you are so it might be a third party SEO extension that you may have installed.

hi thanks for your answer.

everything seems to be ok with my menus items and my articles.

I made some test and i'm lost !!

look I create new menu item and new category item for an article and now with the joomla sef core option enabled I have an creation date in the url, instead of template/lorem-ipsum !!

The url is like this : http://www.mysite.com/2011-10-12-15-34-16/mypage.html

!!!!!

If I disabled the joomla core sef option I simply have an 404 error page with a message!!!

Please look at the pic.

I need your help this the first time I have such a problem!!!!!!!!!!!

a precision the problem is only for "sumenu" item, if I go to a page through a "direct" menu of the main menu everything is ok.

For example I have a Contact menu item in my main menu, and the page's url is correct (www.mysite.com/contact.html).

I found the source of the problem and the solution, it was about the alias of the menu item. The menu item was an extern url with # as a link, so i didn't see for this an alias.

I change the type of menu for an article and here i saw the bad alias template.

So I have to link the menu item to article and save for generate a new alias and then change for extern url type.

After all is ok !!!!!

Thanks for your time guys !!!

One tip for your SEF URL's, if you get a 404 that means you are not using the .htaccess file. Joomla comes with a file in the root directory named htaccess.txt and you need to change that to .htaccess (Dont forget the period just before the name). Once you do that you can enable the SEF in Global .config and your site will start to show user friendly URL's,

Have the same problem as well on our www.mediametry.com website). Tried to understand the above (with 20 years of IT experience) but for some strange reason I don't get the logic. We installed the Corporate 2 Template Quickstart for J! 1.7 which gave no problems during installation and started to change just a few articles to get used to the template. I am sure we are doing something different compared to what the programmers had in mind but I just don't get it. Appreciate some help from you guys.

1. Can't get rid of the "template/lorem-ipsum" in the urls.

2. Some READ MORE buttons on the front page show a follow-up page, some don't and keep the user on the front page

3. For some pages the bread crumbs show for example "Home » Joomla pages III » Category List » Outsource Management". This obviously doesn't make sense for a user. For other links the breadcrumbs show ok. Looks like the problems have something to do with the READ MORE buttons of the modules on the front page.

I followed the read more links and they look accurate on my end, but I do see there is an issue with the names in the page links. Some of your issues could be due to a cache issue in your browser. Either clear your browser cache and look again or try a different browser. Also you should clear all the cache out of Joomla so nothing is left over from the package install.

There could be any number of reasons for your problem with the links but I would first go into the menus and make sure the parameters are correct. Then go into the categories and ensure the alias has been changed to reflect your new categories. Also as it is common for new Joomla designers to just rewrite the current articles and rename them to fit their new page. They often overlook the alias and this is what the browser reads to populate the links. So check the article and the menu alias, making sure they read right according to the name of said article or menu.

I would like to note that although you can use package install it really is not the best solution. I only use the quick start to view what they did and how they made things work. I then take that information and apply it to a clean Joomla install with the template.

The only way you are going to know if things are working as you expect them to using a Quick start install is to go through every menu item, making sure everything (including any parameters) is cleared out and directing like you want. Also all the modules need to be checked for consistency. All of this requires a comprehensive understanding of Joomla and in this case of the Gavick template. Otherwise you are going to find these anomalies.

New Joomla designers thinks using a quick start is going to save them time, when in fact you create more issues for yourself using them. Only use a quick start to identify how things work and save yourself a ton of time by just installing a fresh copy of Joomla and adding things in as you need them. Another benefit of doing this is you will not have leftover elements that you do not need, folders that are not logical (like template or demo)and extensions that you do not need or are out of date and should have never been used. Not only that but this way you will know much more about your site and how it works. Which will make troubleshooting or in your case, help you to learn and understand the logic making life much easier with your site.

I am for hire if you need someone with more hands on support to help you get your site working like you want. Just reply to this post and I will give you my contact info.
