There are a couple of custom modules I am planning to have developed and am just sort of sketching out a rough plan for them in advance.

I'm curious as to if anyone has ever developed a module that uses its own database rather than using the default joomla database.

For example, I want to develop some scores and schedules modules (or perhaps one integrated module that covers both) that will track and manage the playing schedule of sports teams, as well as the historical box scores, as input by me on the back end. I don't want to junk up the main database with this info and was thinking the module could communicate with a dedicated database for this purpose.

Is this possible with Joomla 1.5?
