I just don't understand the complains about the Joomla 1.7 templates. If a developer is going to create a new website why bother using joomla 1.5 if there will be no more support for it in a few months? Of course there is a lot of people out there using joomla 1.5 but they already are using a template. Joomla has to evolve and create more options not keep in the same old thing. Like dinosaurs if you don't evolve you will be extinct in a few years.

Thanks to the gavick team for an excellent template.

There is no doubt that the July ( out in August template ) is good. It has lots of features and can be adapted. The issue for some is that no one was told that the 1.5 version would be out some time in September.. I agree with Mark21 that people have to evolve. This template is so good - complex that people with very large sites on 1.5 with 100's of articles cannot safely migrate to 1.7 .

I understand that migrate a lot of article are really frustrating but you should do!! Try to use the Jupgrade components. I've used it for my website and it works great especially for Joomla article. Really cool!!!

We've found exactly the opposite, that migrating from 1.5 to either 1.6 or 1.7 is a complete pain in the backside. Using the tool you mention works for articles, but doesn't do anything much with modules, menus, components, plugins, all of which need to be compatible with the latest version.

I have been working on this for 3 days now. All components and modules are screwed. The least that could have been done was for Joomla to have thought about some sort of component that would make it easy for the transition to 1.6.

I understand the problem about 3rd party module/component but from my perspective the main issue are joomla article and menu item and this component solve it perfectly. It's utopistic found a component that migrate all without additional manual work, so you don't have any other chance. Next year Joomla 1.5 will became preistoric CMS without any support from Joomla project.
