large news website with The News II template

Hello guys!

I use The World News II template for a very large website. So far it runs over 150.000 articles and I have to import more than 700.000 all together. I also use Full Text RSS to post new articles from over 100 news feeds sources.

The website (www.e-politic.ro) runs pretty slow now as I try to find a solution to reduce the temporary tables that Joomla creats in the MySQL database. I use a dedicated VPS for this website.

Please any good advice regarding site speed improvement form template's point of view or Jomla 2.5.6 version is more than welcome.

Also, may I ask you if you know anything about temporary tables as Joomla 2.5.x (and previous versions) run mysql queries that can create huge temporary tables multi-gigabyte in size if you have a lot of articles (reviews) as our site does.

I have this issue now. At over 140.000 articles the site and if queries are fine for small sites such a large sites have these problems where the size of the created temp tables can eat up all of one's /tmp directory and freeze the system.

The /tmp directory has over 8G now. This is abnormal...Also often I get this error: Database connection error (2): Could not connect to MySQL.

Do you know anything about this. Can you make any recommendations.
