MeetGavern CSS vs Bootstrap

Hi all
I have been tinkering with this template for the last few days.
After changing the CSS to get a specific look, I went into the bootstrap files to do some further editing to get a carousel happening.
My changes had no effect. Then I found the Template Option "Recompile Bootstrap".
I set this to Enabled and finally my changes to the .less file came through.
So for a moment I thought I a new insight. The I realized that the changes in the CSS all went back to the original template state.
What just happened?

Can somebody give me some insight on how to edit .css or .less and what to do first?

Also, I am using CSSEdit to work with my .css. This editor does not understand .less.
What is the recomended editor on the Mac?

I'm using VIM Editor on Mac and haven't seen anything better yet.

About files modification please check if compression and cache are disabled. Which files are You making this changes to ? There is a special file for CSS changes called override.css, but to use it override needs to be allowed in template settings.
