Meet Gavern Magic Quotes Off

Im having trouble with the Joomla 3 version of the quickstart Meet Gavern template and switching Magic Quotes Off

Ive checked with my host and they say its off. I tried creating a php.ini and adding the line as detailed in the wiki but I cant figure it out.

Scrap this...

I had to create the php.ini with these two lines...

magic_quotes_gpc = Off
session.save_path = "/tmp"
