In general image cropping isn't complex but elastic and user-friendly implementation of image cropping is very complex :) That's why I need a lot of time for it ;)

One important news - after analyzes I've decided that to the new version of News Show Pro GK4 we'll include also one big additional feature. In this case we'll release NSP GK4 v.3.0 not NSP GK4 v.2.4 with the new template. So the module in the new version will be released later than I wrote earlier, but it will be contains a lot of new features so it is worth to wait few days longer ;) sorry for the changes in the release date, but it is senseless to release two versions of the module with really big changes and new features in the short period of time - we really need the new secret feature to the newest template ;)

No WE WILL NOT WAIT!!!!! lol. Man like I said, have fun with it. Obviously you did have some luck with adding some new features. But you have no idea how much it would help if you just posted a working model that crops images. A upgrade later with the new features would be great. But I don't want to lose weeks of development over a template I may not be able to use anyway.

I'm faced with using a JA template when a Gavick template would be better design.. But I need the crop feature to make this site happen for the client.

In general the hardest one in implementation of the new features is the back-end of the module ;) Because currently I'm having most part of the front-end code. But I'm sure that the final version will be really useful, because it has really complex solution for cropping images which will be really elastic and useful ;)

Just a quick thought.. I was testing the module and it works great once you get the hang of using the variables. But lets say your using the module on K2 (as I am) and you have a image sized at 300x300 and one 300x500 when they come through the module and the images they will need different %'s So I assume that's where the rules come in. I'm sure the GUI will make that a bit easier to manage.

But is it planned to crop by size variables with a auto crop or will all functionality be based on %?

I've described this situation ;) Just create two rules in CROP_RULES:

300:300=x:y:z:w;300:500=x:y:z:w;

;)

I really don't think there is one right now. The module is really in dev mode. Although it's functional it's really for advanced users. I think dziudek really pushed really hard to make it available for this last template.

With that said, I'm sure as per a few posts up that he'll be working on the GUI and documentation really soon.

But for right now let me get you on the right track. Lets say you have a image with:

300px x 300px the rule for that would look like this:

300:300=x:y:z:w;

the letters to the right of the = are the % of crop you want. The reaso you would want to do this is because you may not want to crop every image the same way. Lets say you have some beautiful women in a portrait image ( tall image ) you don't want to crop them at their nose to their neck.

600:300=0:20:70:20; this would basically be a head shot with the body and below cut off. I mean your going to have to play with it.

There is a price for flexibility and features and I for one am happy to pay it, but the price is called learning curve.

If you think it will be a few more weeks before the mod is finished, would it be possible for me to go ahead and get the Dev version? ;)

I installed the first beta and then took the files out th new template and added those over the first module. and don't forget to change the language file too. the newer module has some nice new goodies in it.

dziudek while your in the nutz and bolts of that module can you put a text area above the content of the module? that would help on a lot of problems especially H2 tags when using NSP. Sort of like a intro to the content.

Hi dziudek,

Is there an estimated release date for the new version? I was just about to look for an alternative module to replace NSP because it lacks cropping resized images.

Thanks in advance.

Well here's my issue, I'm using a image that is exactly 400x600 with 400:600=10:10:70:10; as a crop rule, but I'm not getting the desired results. Maybe it's because I copied over the first dev release with the new one in the new template.. something may be missing. These are the module files right off the server.

@mongo2006 you're right - I've checked the module with sample image and I've found a problem with fragment which finding proper crop rule. Now I've released NSP GK4 v.3.0.1 with fix for it :) I hope that now all should be ok - remember about enabling "keep aspect ratio" option ;)
