HTML tags in Search

I'm not sure if this is a template issue at all, in fact, but a standard search in Joomla now displays HTML tags instead of the highlighted result, see below;
<span class="highlight">microsoft</span> Surface 3
I am getting this on sites using the Technews template, but it happens on your demo site as well, which is where this search result came from.
I have done a quick Google search on this, but results a bit too technical for me I'm afraid. It looks like it could be a Joomla bug? Can you help?

Please try rename /html/com_search/search/default_results.php to _default_results.php

However, I'm wondering what happens on upgrading the template? Will I have to rename this file again?

I'm afraid yes, but I always suggest to follow the update logs https://www.gavick.com/updates and only replace mentioned files.
