How do you load the quickstart?

I get that this would be the quickest way to get up and running. I use the extension manager to upload and install the quickstart. it says it has successfully done so but I do not see any of the media elements, components, modules, etc. I've only managed to get the template installed by doing that as a separate install.

There don't seem to be any instructions for installing the quickstart in the documentation -- i would have thought this would be the first thing in the documents since this is what you suggest in your readme file with the download. Then again, I would have expected there to be instructions in the readme itself that came with the download.... sadly no.you can see in my other post, there is an unrelated but also remedial problem in that there is no layout of the module positions. this is especially helpful for starting off with a new template. There is a link in the documentation page with the words module positions, but it just launches an empty popup page no matter what browser I use. I wrote to VIP support who point me back to this board. My last request for support went up more than 12 hours ago and has had only 4 looks and no replies... this does not bode well.

Hi,

That strange I put it few years ago there. I guess you didn't search using right words.
Please read:
https://www.gavick.com/documentation/jo ... rt-package
https://www.gavick.com/documentation/jo ... stallation
https://www.gavick.com/documentation/jo ... quickstart

And you will understand that QS cannot be installed by Extension Manager.
I guess you're green in Joomla topic :) But do not worry just read more and more. Maybe also take a book from Pack Publishing ?

Actually, i've been using joomla since just before 1.5 abd have built dozens of large websites with it. I've used manu different template systems from a variety of suppliers over the years....some good, some bad.

Having to search for instructions to carry out your recommended installation process is wrong from the start. When you buy a hard hood it comes with instructions in the box, not an expectation that you will search elsewhere for those instructions.vI would expect the same attention to detail in a software purchase and most suppliers meet that expectation. You have a readme file with the download but no instruction...why? It would be logical and easy to place the relevant info as close to the purchased product as possible. BTW, some of your competitors do use the extensions manager to install quickstarts. Oh, and why not structure the zip archive so that you can ftp it compressed and expand it on the server? much more logical. But you place a folder in the archive folder so that it expand into amsubfolder for no good reason, creating yet another unnecessary step.

Also, am i to understand that you quickstart install does not work with a softaculous install of Joomla? Maybe the best thing to do, rather than the arcane install described in your link is just to do a simple template and plugin etc install and give us step by step, detailed instructions for replicating your demo site. in this way we learn the intricacies for you template and get the site we wanted. the quickstart reduces our learning process and leaves us vulnerable. Maybe you have zuch instructions but I have simply not found them?

If you're using Joomla since J1.5 you're lucky, and you should be a smart guy.
So I really do not understand why you have problem with :
1) Download package
2) Unzip on your local disc
3) Transfer all files into server
or
Repack again but without folder and copy to server and using kickstart.php unzip online
---
About why all our packages are inside folder, many users had overridden their current websites in past , and to avoid it we decided to use extra folder inside package. Maybe for you it's stupid, but ... it works.
---
I hope that now you will be able to install quickstart in less than 7 minutes, like XX users before you.

Maybe I'm in this business a little bit longer but I know that maybe one(two) who used it.
Of course we do not talk about templates from TF or similar websites, but popular developers, which are on the market longer than 5 years. But thanks anyway, I will talk with our developer about this concept.
I hope that you client will be happy as always.

Well, i did repack the zip archive after reading a post from another of your customers who had the same issue. I placed it at the same level as my softaculous install of joomla. I then expanded it in place. all the files went where they should have as I had hoped. So now i had all the components in the various places in my Joomla install. looked in the admin of my joomla install and nothing. no modules, no components such as Solidres, nothing. So something didn't work.

What would be helpful would be the following

1. A detailed description of the steps required to install the quickstart on an existing, softaculous Joomla instance
2. A detailed description of how to construct your demo site using just the install of the template, associated plugins and components, etc.

ad 1) It's not possible because as you might read , Joomla core is a part of quickstart. You have bought GK product as it's, not how it could be.
ad 2) We have only this: https://www.gavick.com/documentation/jo ... tion/hotel

OK, UI scrapped my existing server and stasrted over. After a couple of tries I now have it up and running. Now, is there any module position map? Is there anything that describes which component is delivering which module? Without a module layout it is difficult, without diggin into the rendered code, to find out which elements belong to which modules and how they lay out. I'm starting off my finding each module that I can, modifying it and taking notes so I know where to go to change individual elements of the landing pages. But many of the elements don't seem to align with any obvious modules I can find.

In hotel you have only two addcional components : solidres and K2
If your site must be easy to manage - you do not have to use K2 at all.
Solidres - is for reservation only, if your client site will be a hotel site etc..

Yes, there is also acymailing, with one module - but not all hotels needs newsletter.

a list of module names is not very helpful. what I want is a simple wireframe diagram that shows where the positions lie in relation to one another. in this way i can unpick the demo and find out which modules are where and how they relate to each other.

Maybe old tip from "ancient times" of Joomla will help:

thanks but someone already graciously sent me the wireframe. Now, if we can figure out how to get the template to display the results of the check availability module to fit on the screen (currently it is running off the left side of the screen in places both on my site and your demoe site) then I'll be in pretty good shape. FYI, solidres guys have had to pull apart my site because the modules etc did not match the version of solidres for some reason and this was messing things up too.
