Custom 404 error page

Is there a template option to customize the 404 page?

I have jsitemappro extension that provides for custom 404 page as an option but they have told me that if the option does not work it is likely due to a conflict of the template also providing this option.

In either case, please help me know how to best customize 404 error page so it looks better than the text result currently showing in quark.

Our 404 error page is a file error.php in template's folder. Try to rename it to _error.php and a default joomla one should be used than.
