How to insert the flags of language selection

I need to insert a menu with flags (English + Italian) to select the language of the site.
The development site is at:
http://www.icestreet.it/
I tried to find a solution but I did not succeed, can you help?
The attached picture is to understand how I would like to enter the menu flags.

it won't be easy,
you have to customize template core files to add new module position near menu
layout/default.php
