[SOLVED] No demo content after quickstart installation

Hi,

I followed all the procedures from the quick install documentation, and the whole process went smoothly (correct confirmation screens etc.).

I now see the front page (which I can edit a little - but can't see where the slideshow etc. is specified). There are no images displayed on the front page though.

I can also see all the links on the menu, but none of them have any content and lead to "page not found".

I've used WordPress.com for many years but this is the first time I've self-hosted. How can I begin to troubleshoot this - maybe a database issue? I ran a database check from my hosting admin panel and it all says "OK".

The images are not included. If you go to the media folder you'll notice all grey squares replacing the theme image content. Personally, I did an FTP to upload gk_photo to the WP themes folder. Any links leading to a page not found tells me the page/post does not exist from your quickstart install.

This can easily be resolved by creating the page/post/category yourself then adding them to the main/social menu (appearance > menus). To edit the Frontpage you'll need to go to pages > add new. You'll then need to create a page adding a featured image (this is the slide show image). Under attributes, choose Frontpage as the "parent". I hope this helps, best of luck!

Thanks for the suggestions. Yes, this helps as I thought something fundamental hadn't correctly installed. I'm now gradually working my way around.

However the install documentation clearly says that the quickstart package "contains a complete WordPress installation with the demo content", yet in reality it contains only a small fraction of the demo content, which for a first-timer is challenging
