Editing K2 item.php

Hi there,

First of all... Thanks for this awesome template! I am really in love with it.
I am using it to build a news site and want to incorporate some K2 extra fields (found the info not easy to find but think I now know how to add). However no matter what changes I make to the item.php file in the K2 component folder and FTP, nothing changes in the item (I even uploaded an empty item.php file ) . Am I looking in the right place? Or is the item file somewhere else?
All I want to do is basically have a few fields (1 dropdown for Month and textfield for optional day + one for year) to appear in front of the article, with its own styling.

Hi,
in most GK templates k2 was overridden , so you have to search here:
templates\gk_writer\html\com_k2\templates\default\item.php

Yep K2 have custom Extra Fields, but also default article can have them, using simple extension.
Sometimes it's much better solution than K2, which is big ballast for Joomla speed.

it depends what features you need, but also check reviews.

But for most cases even "MiniCCK" will be okey.
