Frontpage Image Overlay not displaying properly in Writer

When I try to set up my front page like the template, I get a short banner type image not the full screen image. Within that space the image and text appear to be responding as if they are full page, meaning the text disappears and appears from behind the lower edge of the banner space. I've attempted to use the portfolio and other module modes and they all take the full page as expected. It also works (shows full screen) if I put the same module in different positions. I've configured my settings exactly like your documentation and had it set completely different and visually it looks the same when left in the Mainbody position.

My install was using the template install but I had previously built my site from your Startup template quickstart. Joomla has been updated several times since then and I've kept my site up to date. I've also reinstalled this template a few times, for good measure.
