Ho do you split module positions, such as Header_bottom or maybe bottom_1 into different sectors so we can split positions between modules, horizontally and with modules of different widths?
Thanks

You would need to create custom modules or post 2 modules in one position and use css to create custom styling (floating elements next to each other and setting their width in % of width if you want to keep RWD behave).

That sounds complicated - apart from creating the module. Is there no easier way to have two modules sitting next to each other?

Sorry, no . Those positions are designed just for the menu purpose.

Are there any positions you can use to enable modules to sit side by side

From what I know you can use any of "bottom" positions. Placing 2 modules there they will render side by side (columns).
