Broken internal links to all images after activating SSL

Hi,

I ran into a problem after my hosting company installed and activated SSL on our website http://www.elegant-alpaca.com.
I configured the template (forced SSL for website and VM), edited the configuration file and htaccess file as I found here https://www.gavick.com/documentation/uncategorized/how-to-use-ssl-in-a-joomla-site.

Now all internal links to images are broken both at the frondend as in the backend.
All images are still in their original folders (content website + virtuemart), permissions haven't changed, seems like links are generated correctly with htpps,... The website doesn't show security erros and the padlock is closed.
The hosting company does not reply after 5 days now.

You think this is a problem with the hosting company?
Do I have to edit the .htaccess file to grant access to image files? How do I do that?
Can you please give me advice on this?
Thank you.

Apparently I didn't add my new domain (https:/) to Hostgator's hotlink protection.
