Remove section from Front Page

What's the easiest way to remove a section like the "Did you know?" Awards content from the Front Page? I've messed around with removing menu items, unpublishing posts, and so far it's been a difficult process.

All I want to do is show three of the five sub-sections on the Front page. What's the best way to go about this?

Hello,

You are using default settings from the quickstart, right?
So it's enough to remove widgets from proper widget areas. e.g. Did't you know section you can remove in Bottom I widget area (it's text widget), check other bottom and mainbody widget areas.
