Hi,

I have tried several of time to install the Quick Install of NEWS2 (the Joomla 3 version)

Everytime after pressing Install it will start the installation/configuration - but after around 30 sec it jumps back to point 3 - the Overview tab of the installation.
I have cleared my browser, tried another browser, restarted my local server, restarted my computer, but without any luck.

I have also tried to install other Gavick templates and they all work!

If I choose the Joomla 2.5 version of NEWS2 - then it works perfect!

I get no error messages at all.

Any idea?

Hello,

Please make sure that you have disabled error display on your server - most probably one of the joomla installations steps returns a warning or notice and then it cause that installation stops.

Hi dziudek,

It is not working for me at all.

I normally use Uniserver as local test server setup. Uniserver is showing me that Display Error is Off but when I get to the last tab (point 3) of the Quick Install installation it is showing me On. And the installation fails again.

Now I have also tried the WAMP server, but it is the same. Display Error is Off according to the server, but the installation shows On and fails.

I am very confused as I have never had this problem with any of your Quick Installs before.

One more thing...

I have just tried to install both your Quick Install and a pure Joomla 3 at the same time.

Your Quick Install tells me Display Error is On and fails
The pure Joomla tells me Display Error is Off and install with any problems

Hope this helps

Cheers,

What is the setting for display_errors in your PHP.ini configuration? The installation stop and database import step?

display_error is set to Off in both php.ini, php_development.ini and php_production.ini

31 tables has been created in DB when installation stops.

What is your PHP version? Could you provide me details to place where you are trying to install quickstart? I'll remove ini_set rule from your package but it looks like this rule is simply not working in your host.. I've tested package on localbost and live server at there is no problem.

This morning I tried to install the Quick Install live on a domain.
I did not change any setting, so Display Error was On.

Installation went through first time without any problems!
Same package as I have problems with locally.

I am lost...

Maybe this gives more information.

When standing on tab 2 of the installation and click next, the installation freeze and I get the below error in the status bar.
I picked this error up via IE. So with IE I never get to tab 3!

Workaround....

I installed Akeeba Backup on a live installation and restored it locally with Kickstart.

This problem is caused by your particular server configuration, if the same package work properly on localhost this means that something is wrong with ini_set rules in your host. We've added ini_set rule at the beginning of installer code to make sure that all goes fine and errors will be not displayed. I've tested package on several different servers and local configurations and every single time all goes fine…

Yep, seems that way. I have just no clue what has changed. Even a new downloaded and installed Uniformserver does not work.

Anyway - I will update this thread if I find the problem.

Thanks

Just one thought - how come the Quick Install of the template "NEWS" is working here on my system?
100% same Uniformserver and setup. But NEWS goes straight through!

What is the difference between those 2 packages?

There is no difference :) installer is exactly the same because we use the same files to generate all quickstarts. Maybe just the database import is too big and your connection timeout cut the connection.

I have exactly the same problem
I have tried several times to install the Quick Install of NEWS2 Joomla 3 on a Xampp server

Everytime after pressing Install it will start the installation/configuration - but after around 30 sec it jumps back to point 3 - the Overview tab of the installation.
The installation process stops when Creating database tables

I have also tried to install gavick news template and it works.

@karagiannis are you sure that display_errors option is disabled in your installation? Did you try to install clean Joomla from joomla.org?

OK, I think I have found the problem (well - at least my problem)

I changed max_execution_time in php.ini from 30 to 600.
And because we have talked so much about Display Error ON vs OFF - I did two installations. One with Display Error set to ON and one set to OFF. Both installed perfect.

I also took an old download of the NEWS2 Quick Install I had on my computer (from 10. March 2014) just to be sure that Gavick did not do any updates.
Both my old Quick Install and a new I just downloaded installed perfect.

So from my point of view it is a timeout problem and not about displaying errors or not.
BKRZTUK - I guess you were right in one of your posts when you suggested a some sort of timeout problem.

I hope this will help others with same problem.

Thanks for all the help I got in the forum. I appreciate it!

Thanks for sharing your solution, probably the problem is related with the demo content which cause that the sql import file is bigger than in clean Joomla! installation. It is good that your problem is resolved and all is working fine.
