Hello - what versions of IE are supported with the News 2 template? I'm having customer complaints from IE users visiting my site (www.stnonline.com) and I've found that the menu doesn't work unless you're running IE 11. Using the netrenderer.com emulation site, I've found that with IE 7 & 8, a user gets an error message at the top of the screen stating that they're using an obsolete browser and it gives them a link to upgrade. I understand that a template can't support all legacy browsers so I'm not surprised by this (although I would love for it to work!)

However, I've also found that with IE 9 or IE 10 the menu still doesn't work and shows up as an expanded list of text on the left side of the screen. There is no error message, just a really messed up page.

Suggestions? And yes, I'm kicking myself for not testing this more thoroughly before we went live with the new website!

Thanks,
Kent

I tried two compatibility tools, both with similar results. First I tried the website emulator www.netrenderer.com, then I installed the Chrome extension "IE TAB" on my Windows computer. With either approach if I emulate IE 9 or 10 the menu breaks. We initially found out about this through customer complaints.

On IE 11 the site looks fine, but if you turn on Compatibility View the site will break.

I use: http://www.my-debugbar.com/wiki/IETester/HomePage
because most of all online tool have weak engine.

Our demo & quickstart was tested also on this tool, and under IE9 menu works.

I managed to fix this, so I thought I would document the solution here in case it helps anyone else:

I've been using Blank Module from blackdale.com to insert some code into the <head> section of every page for supporting Google DFP ads. Blank Module does this by creating a new <head> section and inserting it at the top of the page, higher than the <!DOCTYPE html> declaration. Most browsers ignore this error but it broke compatibility with IE 9 and 10.

I fixed it for now with a ReReplacer script that looks for these new <head> sections and then replace it with the proper <!doctype> declaration at the top. I'll look for a cleaner solution for incorporating the Google code, but this seems to have fixed it.

Thanks,
Kent
