I am going to have a lot of contents in my site. I am still in a dilemma whether to go with K2 or use the default Joomla article content. I am thinking of probably going with Joomla articles itself since 3.3 supports advanced tagging system and I may not need all the features that K2 provides. But what I really want is the ability to show the related articles section at the bottom of each articles. I want the related items to be listed with thumbnails and title instead of the boring list layout that I've seen in K2. Here is a sample of what I love to have:

Is it possible to show related articles like the screenshot above for articles created in Joomla core (perhaps identifying the related articles using the tags)? How can I add a module like that? Can I use NSP module to show this related articles section? If this is not possible with default Joomla contents, is it possible to show like the above screenshot style with K2 articles?

Hi.
In most cases related articles have one common point.
It can be this same category or related tags.
For people it doesn't matter - Related module is very useful to intrigue and stop for a long time website visitor.

You can use NSP to show other articles from this same category what module name you will add this is your concept.

About K2 items:
There is few modules for K2 which can show REAL related K2 items it's based on tags. You will find them on JED.

p.s.

Hi Pawel F,

Thank you for your response. I read your article on the comparison between Joomla article and K2. Infact that is one of the first articles I read when I searched through google even before I knew about GavickPro. Till now, that was the best informative article that helped me understand the overview of the features these 2 had to offer. I didint know you wrote it. Thanks for that.. :)

Although I now understand the feature K2 has to offer, I am still in a dilemma whether to use it or not. One of the main reason being, if I ever had to install any other extensions in the future, I always need to check to see if it is compatible with K2 or not since K2 is the main runner but where as with Joomla core, I dont need to worry too much about it. Also I dont really like how K2 has its own user registration and login modules. Hopefully over the next few days I will get a better idea on what I am going to do since this is a big decision and I dont want to change it in the future.

With the extension for related items, I did a few search in JED however I am yet to find one that displays like the one in the screenshot above. I found one but it had only 2 reviews and they were really terrible, I looked at JV-Relatives which seems to show images but I dont think it does it with image at top and title at bottom. Do you know (or have heard of) any extension that shows the related articles like the above screenshot?

"You can use NSP to show other articles from this same category what module name you will add this is your concept."

Love that idea. Why didint I think of that? Coming to think of it, other articles in the same category can actually be considered as related articles and that is why they are placed into the same category. Also I am assuming this method will be a lot less resource hungry since it doesnt need to search and match tags or keywords, etc.. with all articles, isint it? I am wondering though, if I do use NSP to show other articles in that category and use that module as a related article block, is it possible for NSP to check the current article its placed on and exclude that article from this list automatically?

Right now there is no such a option :(
But in near future who knows. You can ask about it our developer here: https://github.com/GavickPro/News-Show-Pro-GK5/issues

... I didn't know you wrote it.

Since last year I've written one book about Joomla, over 200 articles for our documentation (http://www.gavick.com/documentation/site-map/), and before I wrote some also for our Magazine... It's good that some of them helped you.
...but unfortunately this is last month with my cooperation here.
