Hello,

I've installed from the scratch the quickstart social template; everything seems fine except when I go in any configuration page in admin backend I see all messed up and I have no possibility to config anything.

This is very strange since I installed tens of times gavick templates both from quickstart and from template standalone on many different sites

This is my system settings

PHP Built On Linux webxc34s06.ad.aruba.it 2.6.32-573.12.1.el6.x86_64 #1 SMP Tue Dec 15 21:19:08 UTC 2015 x86_64

I can give the admin access on request.

Thanks for your help

Hi

Have You used this domain for a different page ? Maybe style and javascript files are loading from browser cache. Try clear browser cache and try again. If this will not work please send me an access to joomla panel.

Hello,
thanks for your reply.
As a matter of fact after a reinstallation and several struggling efforts I realized that the problem came from the component REDMigrator, from its plugin REDCoreSystem (or whatever its name).

I wanted to use that component to migrate my J2.5 contents to a new J3.5 (MSocial Gavick).

Unfortunately I discovered that its latest version does not work on 3.5, so I will try to use an old MSocial version with Joomla 3.3 that I found on an old desktop folder (and then upgrading Joomla), otherwise I think that I have to use a different migration tool; unluckly neither the J2.5 migration system works: I tried to migrate without success a copy of my 2.5 site both with automatic update and by copying the 3.5 upgrade files over the 2.5 folders.

I will update my post after the trial with MSocial 3.3 in case someone else should found in my very same situation

Thanks

Hi

I do not think You even need a migraition tool for that. I've updated couple of sites only using joomla update packages. First to 2.5.28 and than to 3.5.1 in one go. What can cause problems after that action are modules and components installed, so they may need to be updated or replaced.

Hello,

yes you're right: I tried in every way using update package to get from 2.5.28 to 3.5, the result was that the site breaks and stops working I cannot even login anymore (always blessing backups!). I think that the problem comes from the bloody J2.5 sobipro that I cannot even unistall: if I try the site breaks as well. So I have bought SP transfer and will try to migrate the contents with it from the old 2.5 site to the new fresh J3.5 MSocial. Stay tuned ;-)

For the record: RedMigrator does not work even with J3.3 MSocial version a copy of what I was able to recover

Hello,

just for the record that's how I did the migration since the other methods failed:

1) installed a fresh J3.5 with MSocial in the old site subdirectory
2) installed VM Migrator (I bougth it some months ago for another migration involving VirtueMart) and migrated all the contents, users, modules, menu, contacts, images etc. keeping also their languages (great extension: it saved my life in a previous VM migration J2.5 => J3.x)
3) installed all the other extensions (Jevents, Phocagallery, Phocadownload, K2)
4) installed SP transfer so I was able to copy each extension database table from the old site to the new one and getting all the new extentions filled with the items and data in the new one
5) Copied all the media/K2 images/attachments in the new site

Now I only have to rebuild the home page and fixing some menu items

Hi

Try look at settings in our documentation for this template https://www.gavick.com/documentation/ or install a quickstart to have something to compare with.

Thank You for posting the step by step instruction. Still cannot understand why You had so many problems with it. In most occasions when I update a site all I have to do is to simply hit Joomla Update button and than update/replace modules, but as You've mentioned already, if joomla panel is broken after update than something went wrong for sure.
