Perhaps some folder permissions on your server?
Please ask your hosting company for advice.

Never heard of that kind of problem. Perhaps something is wrong with xampp configuration?
Check out this forum thread about manually installing templates:

perhaps this way you will be abble to instal...

Just to be sure - please download any free Joomla template and try to install it and see whats happening.

Had the same problem.

"Install via FTP" in http://docs.joomla.org/J3.2:Installing_a_template was helpful for me.

But this kind of problems means big configuration problem - and just shouldn't happen - specially on MAMP/XAMP/WAMP local server.
Perhaps server logs shows some information?

With remote (hosting) server when you cant upload template, probably you will have problems also with uploading images and media. In that case - there is 99% chance that some directory permissions are wrong. Contacting hosting company support and asking for that might solve the problem.

Yes. You're right. What I've wrote was just a little helpfull for me but not the right solution. Because I've installed it as a new template and I've had to do all my settings again. Not good...

I'll try it with fixing the permissions on my test-server in some days and then give a reply...

I've fixed the permissions and installed the template.

The only thing is that I've had to replace override.css with the old one I've had before the installation. But this was ok for me. Thanx a lot :)
