Creating a Gallery

What is the correct way to create a gallery? I am looking to create a slideshow of a few pictures in one blog post or page.

For some reason I cannot seem to recreate it. I cannot even see in the documentation where the instructions to this are located. I have tried to excerpt it from the pages that come installed with the quickstart and still no luck.

It's very easy, you have to create Template Page - gallery and then attach images from media library to this page. Please check this article:

I have tried that. Those exact steps and I do not get the desired result no matter if it is a blog post or a gallery page. The pictures are just listed one after the other. Also it looks as if that article was written for a older version of wordpress. The quickstart comes with version 3.8 and there is no way to assign a subpage.
