Images in posts Pop Up and not open in new page

I have the thickbox enabled is theme settings and added a gallery. However, the images open in separate posts if clicked on. How do I get them to pop up instead

Hi, please check this description, thickbox is not for images from the gallery.

What I'm trying accomplish is for images to opo up and not open in a new post/browser. Can this be done?

Unfortunately it's not possible with default WP gallery, check this article:

That plugin is no longer supported but there are quite a few others. I ne understand for pop up images I'd need a plugin. SOLVED
